Collin Anglin - 2010 YCLA recipient

During Saturday night's live Cayman27 telecast of the Young Caymanian Leadership Awards, Mr. Collin Anglin was announced as the 2010 recipient.

A member of the selection committee comments to all five of the finalists honoured this year, "You are undoutedly charting the course for the future success of generations to come and if ever for a moment we should lose faith in the ability of our Island to find capable leaders, we need only to look to you and those of your calibre to take us where we need to go"

"Producing an event which combines a one hour live TV broadcast and an impressive black tie gala requires a great deal of support, in particular we would like to thank our Major Sponsors: Cox Lumber, Dart Foundation, Fosters Food Fairs, PricewaterhouseCoopers and WestStar TV Ltd.", comments Melissa Wolfe of the YCLA Foundation. "In addition, our community has shown continuous support with nominating the young Caymanians that we honour and reward. From year to year, the Foundation strives to produce an event that showcases excellence, with a theme that generates action".

The 2010 theme for YCLA, "Dare 2 be...", opens the door of suggestion and challenges people of all ages to strive to be respectful, trustworthy, courageous, involved, memorable, a rolemodel, etc.... Dare 2 be the best.

Keeping with the theme, chefs from Blue, 7 Prime, Periwinkle, Taikun and banquets have created a tour of culinary talent by presenting signature dishes from the various Ritz restaurants.

YCLA 2010 - presenting Keynote Miles McPherson

YCLA 2010 Keynote Speaker - Miles McPherson

Down to earth, bold and funny, Miles McPherson is known for challenging people to make life-changing decisions.

Whether sharing the stage with a former U.S. president or or addressing a prison yard full of inmates, whether appearing on “Larry King Live” or talking to a women’s club down the street, Miles McPherson has a gift for communicating to just about anyone.

McPherson, a former defensive back for the NFL’s San Diego Chargers turned megachurch pastor, has a track record of appealing to a diverse audience, large and small, American and international. His humorous, yet bold, down-to-earth style has become his trademark.

He is comfortable before a television camera, and has been a guest on “The O’Reilly Factor,” “Larry King Live,” and “Good Morning America.” He was asked to lead prayer at the Republican National Convention in 2008. He has led events in Africa, Jamaica, Belize, and Canada.

Miles’ latest book, DO Something! Make Your Life Count promotes that “The Time to Act Is Now - The world needs you. It's broken. Your neighbors are in desperate need of a helping hand. If you're not content to cruise through life, it's up to you to DO Something!”

YCLA 2010 - Saturday Night at the Ritz

YCLA 2010 will be televised live on Cayman27 beginning at 7:00 pm on Saturday, February 20th. Five Finalist for 2010, from left to right, are Felix Manzanares, Tammy Ebanks Bishop, Krishan Welcome, Melanie McLaughlin and Collin Anglin.

For over eleven years the YCLA has worked to keep the island’s youth on track by providing them with excellent role models in which to identify with. This has been accomplished by involving the community who have partnered with the Foundation by way of identifying and helping to celebrate the lives of those young persons who instinctively “walk the walk and talk the talk”. By showcasing these wonderful young people, the point is made and the finalist will continue the dialogue via public appearances throughout the year.

"Many thanks always to the community for recommending all of the nominees this year, we have received incredible feedback about these five finalists. The entire group is very enthusiastic and dedicated", comments Melissa Wolfe from the Foundation. "More than ever our younger generation needs positive examples to emulate. We are surrounded by great young leaders everyday and the Foundation is proud to recognize and reward them for their contributions to the Cayman Islands".

For the year 2010 the Foundation has chosen to playfully pass the baton of challenge on to our youth, daring them to become all that they are destined to be. The 2010 Theme: “Dare to Be…” will be unveiled the night of the black-tie celebration and will literally spell out the characteristics most often associated with great leaders. These Be adjectives will be presented in a visually stimulating and compelling way and their definition will be emphasized by the example demonstrated by our five remarkable finalists.

These messages will target everyone island wide but will pay special attention to Caymans’ emerging adults and potential leaders. Young people, says… deserve our undivided attention; they are Caymans’ greatest assets and the hope for a better tomorrow.
